eOne nabs 'Favorite' in U.K.

EXCLUSIVE: CANNES -- Entertainment One has snapped up U.K. rights for Stephen Frears' "Lay the Favorite," toplining Bruce Willis, Rebecca Hall and Vince Vaughn. Pic, which is being shopped and co-financed by Wild Bunch, has already sold to Canada (Alliance), Australia (Village Roadshow) and Scandinavia (Svensk Film). Wild Bunch will distribute the pic in France and Italy. The under $20 million pic is produced by London-based Ruby Films' Paul Trijbits and Randall Emmett's Emmett/Furla shingle, which is co-financing the pic, along with Anthony Bregman and D.V. DeVincentis. Peter Gethers will exec produce. Story is based on the life of Beth Raymer, a professional gambler who started as a cocktail waitress in Las Vegas, but rose to become one of the world's most successful professional gamblers. eOne has been throwing some cash around at this Cannes market, snapping up multi-territory rights to Summit's near $100 million "Pompeii," for U.K., Canada and Benelux after aggressive bids. Sources suggest the U.K. asking price for "Pompeii" sat at a hefty $14 million, but it is unclear whether eOne paid that price for the single territory, unlikely in a multi-territory deal. The outfit also nabbed U.K. rights to "Tarzan 3D," also from Summit.
