Harvard Business Review interviews Disney CEO Bob Iger | The ...

The latest Harvard Business Review Ideacast features excerpts from a wide ranging interview with Disney CEO Bob Iger. It?s very rare for Bob to drop his CEO personality, but there are a few moments in this interview where I felt we were seeing the real Bob. He?ll never be the sweater wearing grandfather figure that Walt Disney portrayed in public, but he really has come into his own as the CEO of the world?s largest entertainment brand.

The interview was very interesting and topics ranged from the lessons Bob learns from failure (he?s quick to move passed it and would rather reward failure when a creative risk is taken then risk mediocrity), to where the company is going with Mickey Mouse (they want to return him to the impish, rebellious character he was originally instead of the milquetoast corporate spokesperson he had become), to how he handled the transition from the down time of Eisner?s last few years to a company that came to believe in itself again.

You can download the HBR IdeaCast on iTunes or find it using Google Listen on your smartphone. The interview will also be published in the next issue of the HBR.

Activities for the Baby Shower ? Article Xplosion

Now that we?ve planned the baby shower, let?s think of some activities we can enjoy together during the time the shower is being held. There is no hard and fast rule that you must have an activity or game at your shower. Games are loads of fun at any party. Here are some of the typical shower games you can play.
Pin the Bow on the Mother-to-be. You have a big picture of the mother-to-be on a corkboard and a white bow. Blindfold the guests, spin them around a few times, and they try to pin the bow on the mother-to-be.
Pin the Diaper of the Baby. This is very similar to ?Pin the Bow?, but with a big picture of a baby. You can use a man?s white hanky for this one.
Baby Care Manual. Her all the mother?s at the party write out all the suggestions that they think make great mothering. If this is done before hand, you can make it into a great display and keepsake for the mother-to-be.
How I met you. Get everyone in a circle and have each person tell how he/she first met the mother-to-be. Or, a humorous story about the mother-to-be.
Baby Bingo. You can create or purchase cards for this game. Using a five-by-five grid, fill each box with one piece of information. You must have a different card made for each of the guests using about forty common baby-related words, such as binky, pacifier, bottle, bulb syringe, etc. Using the master list of words, write each word on a slip of paper and put it in a large bowl. The ?caller? randomly pulls the words from the bowl. The first guest to get ?bingo? wins.
If you?re not interested in games, here are some activities you might try.
Scrapbook-Making
Scrapbooking is something that almost everyone enjoys. There are scrapbook stores, classes, clubs, web sites, magazines, books and even videos. This is something everyone can do. And, it shouldn?t make a shower budget pricey.
If you?re planning this activity at home, you will need a good size worktable covered for protection from glue, glitter, etc. You?ll need scrapbook supplies?enough for each of your guests to make a page. The finished page will be assembled in a book or binder. One such book I have seen was called, ?the little princess.? Some categories you might consider: home from the hospital, baby?s first smile, places we?ve been, baby?s friends, baby?s family, or gifts received.
Parenting-Advice Book
This is similar to the scrapbook idea, but much more simple. Give each guest a sheet of paper. You can find specialty paper or interesting stationary. After all, this is good, personal advice. Have each guest write a title for their theme. For example, ?How I Potty-Trained Our Son with M&M?s,? and then a byline. Once each guest is done, you could have them share their wisdom with the group. These pages can be collected and professional bound if you wish.

Fran Drescher's gay husband inspires sitcom return (Reuters)

NEW YORK (Reuters) ? Fran Drescher's new sitcom, "Happily Divorced," offer viewers a glimpse into her real-life marital break-up after her husband of 18 years revealed he was gay.

Created by Drescher and ex-husband Peter Marc Jacobsen, the comedy offers a modern-day twist on divorce: After her husband "comes out," they are forced to live together due to financial constraints.

Drescher, 53, co-stars with John Michael Higgins. "Happily Divorced premieres Wednesday on cable channel TV Land.

Best known for her role as "The Nanny," Drescher is also a political lobbyist, health activist and author. Reuters spoke to Drescher about love, being "Happily Divorced" and playing matchmaker for her ex-husband.

Q: "Happily Divorced" is based on your real life when your husband told you he was gay after 18 years. How will viewers relate to this show?

A: I hope they respond in the same way our live audience has -- they love it! The series is inspired by our relationship and reinvention of our friendship. It has a lot of laughs and a lot of substance.

Q: What was your reaction when he told you?

A: It was two years out of the (1999) divorce, and I had already battled cancer and was already in love with a man sixteen years my junior, so it was fine.

Q: You have said that you and your ex-husband are close friends who set each other up on dates. What kind of man do you want for your ex?

A: Someone in their 40's, successful, intelligent, having some kind of substance to them and a good person that's funny.

Q: Are you dating?

A: Yes, I have a few very interesting men in my life right now.

Q: Not everyone going through a divorce ends up "Happily Divorced." Any advice for others who may be divorcing?

A: Our manager gave us good advice when he told us we owed it to ourselves to reinvent ourselves. We also went through therapy together. Love is love. That's the global message of the show.

Q: What television programs are on your DVR?

A. Charlie Rose, Episodes, CBS Sunday morning.

Q: There has been talk of you throwing your hat into the political arena. Any political aspirations?

A: I am involved in Washington in introducing initiatives, trying to get bills passed for the greater good. Whether or not I run for an elective office remains to be seen. It's always been an ambition of mine, but the more I see the politicking that goes not in the best interest of the voters, it sickens me. I think that as a celebrity that's active in Washington, I may have wielded a better sword as a voter, as a citizen.

Q: If you weren't an actress, you'd be ...?

A: I'd probably be one of the many other things that I already am: a writer, politician, advocate, philanthropist, hairdresser, businesswoman.

Q: You're a cancer survivor. What can you tell us about your role as a health care advocate?

A: We have fantastic programs and I hope people go online and find out more about (her nonprofit organization) "Cancer Schmancer" and join the movement. At the end of the day, what's most important is that we have to start making better choices with our lifestyle, because 95 percent of cancer is environmental. It's all about early detection, so we have to start getting educated because there is a 95 percent survival rate if caught early.

Unusual Total Lunar Eclipse Coincides with Full Moon Tonight (SPACE.com)

An unusually long total lunar eclipse will occur as the moon turns full tonight (June 15) for skywatchers across parts of South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia.

At its peak, the total eclipse of the moon will last 100 minutes, making it the longest lunar eclipse in 11 years. The eclipse will not be visible from North America, but observers across a wide swath of the Eastern Hemisphere have a chance to see the lunar event.

The lunar eclipse will begin about 1:24 p.m. EDT (1724 GMT) and last until 7 p.m. EDT (2300 GMT). The eclipse's peak will occur at 4:12 p.m. EDT (2012 GMT).

Total lunar eclipses occur when the Earth passes directly between the sun and the moon, casting a shadow through which the moon passes through. [Blood Moon: 2010 Total Lunar Eclipse Photos]

For observers in South America, western Europe and the west coast of Africa, the eclipse will be visible this evening. Skywatchers in eastern Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina will be able to see the eclipse?s total phase, according to a NASA alert.

According to the website Spaceweather.com, which monitors space weather and skywatching events, the recent eruption of the Puyehue-Cord?n Caulle volcano in Chile may also have an impact on the moon?s look tonight.

"Exhaust from the erupting volcano in Chile could alter the appearance of the eclipse," the website stated.

NASA eclipse experts have said the entire lunar eclipse will be visible from eastern Africa, the Middle East, central Asia and western Australia, though skywatchers in Europe will miss the beginning of the event because the moon will still be below the horizon.

Several organizations will broadcast live views of the lunar eclipse across the Internet, so North American skywatchers can experience a digital version of the event. See the webcast guide at the bottom of this article for more information. [Video: Inside the June 15 Total Lunar Eclipse]

If you plan to observe or photograph the total lunar eclipse of June 15 and would like to share your comments and images with SPACE.com for a possible story or image gallery, contact Managing Editor Tariq Malik at: tmalik@space.com.

June's unusual full moon

There is more to the full moon of June than just tonight?s total lunar eclipse.

When the moon rises across North America around 9 p.m. local time, it will be just a few hours past the instant of full moon, which occurs at 4:14 p.m. EDT (2014 GMT), the exact time when the sun, Earth, and moon fall in a straight line. It is at that time when much of the Old World will experience the lunar eclipse at that time.

Although, technically, a full moon is an instantaneous event, to the human eye the moon "looks" full for at least a day on either side of that instant. [Amazing Supermoon Photos of March 2011]

This month's full moon is also unusual for another reason.

In addition to coinciding with a lunar eclipse, the June full moon falls very close to the summer solstice on June 21, the date when the sun rides highest in the sky in the Northern Hemisphere. Since the moon is directly opposite the sun at full moon, this means that the moon is close to its lowest possible position in the sky.

Just as the midsummer sun leads to the longest day in the year, the midsummer moon is above the horizon for a shorter time than any other full moon in the year, approximately nine hours at middle latitudes.

The accompanying chart shows the full moon as it will appear at midnight in the mid-southern United States. It will be bracketed by two zodiacal constellations, Scorpius and Sagittarius. Rather than showing the fanciful figures of these two traditional constellations, the chart shows two more mundane asterism patterns: a fish hook instead of Scorpius, and a teapot instead of Sagittarius.

Under a "Flower Full Moon"

There are traditional names for all the full moons in the year. The full moon of June is known as the "flower moon," because many flowers are in bloom at this time of year. The Algonquian language calls it the strawberry moon. Some other names are honey moon, rose moon, hot moon and planting moon.

An unusual feature of all full moons is that they mark the only night in the lunar cycle when the moon is in the sky all night long, and is completely absent from the daytime sky.

Many people have the mistaken belief that the sun and moon are always opposite each other, and that the moon shines all night long every night of the month. This simply is not true.

Because the moon is in orbit around the Earth, it can only be exactly opposite the sun one night a month, the night of full moon. During the rest of the month, the moon spends some time in the daytime sky, which means that it also must be absent from the nighttime sky by a corresponding amount of time.

The following groups are offering live webcasts of the total lunar eclipse, weather permitting:

Mazda focusing on its new rotary sports car with new engine

As we know, Mazda has been working on a new RX-8 replacement, few more information has been revealed about this new rotary engine.

For those who don?t know, Mazda?s Wankel engine was first fitted on the 1964 Cosmo R100 Coupe and then this engine was featured on the popular RX-sports cars. Now, the Japanese automaker is set to update this techonlogy. Almost 100 engineers are appointed to work on this particular engine, which will be added to the Mazda?s lineup soon.

Besides, a new laser ignition system was also developed that will be used for the new engine. This system eradicates the requirement for spark plugs and makes it comfortable to seal with the trochodial combustion chamber of the Wankel. By doing this, the automaker has found that the result is more appealing; practically the engine will be much more efficient and will produce less hydrocarbon emissions than the older version of the engine.

This way, the car will produce only 130g/km of carbon dioxide than 299g/kg that produces by the RX-8.

This new vehicle that will feature this engine will also receive micro-hybrid technology, auto stop and start options and use of lightweight materials, etc.

Tips for Looking and Feeling Good on Your Wedding Day

Whether you?re getting married next month or next year, here are some tips to help you prepare to look and feel your best on your big day.

The bridal industry places a lot of emphasis on bridal beauty, including tips for looking and feeling your best on your wedding day. All you have to do is take one look in a bridal magazine to see this.

Bridal professionals know that brides can get stressed out from planning their wedding and that they need help to combat that stress if they want to look and feel their best when they walk down the aisle.

Here are some basic tips to follow that are pretty standard in the bridal beauty world. If you want to look and feel great when your wedding day rolls around, start taking these tips seriously from the moment you set your wedding date.

?

Work out 30 minutes a day. Make exercise a top priority every day to fight stress and weight gain. Your blood pressure and your waistline will thank you!

Be proactive with your skincare regimes. Take care of your skin by moisturizing regularly and always stay hydrated. Periodic trips to the spa for facial and other treatments will help, too.

Don?t skimp on your sleep. Everyone can tell when you?ve skipped a few hours of sleep. Your eyes and your skin look tired and puffy, and you can look downright stressed if you habitually lose sleep during the wedding planning process. Try to get at least eight hours in each night to ensure a healthy complexion and energy level.

Schedule some downtime. Learn to take time for yourself, just as you make time for exercise and all of your wedding planning tasks. Whatever you need to do to get away from the planning stress, do it. You don?t want to get burned out. Paint, go for a jog, or go see a movie with a girlfriend, and schedule some downtime for yourself at least once a week, regardless of how hectic your schedule may be.

These basic tips for looking and feeling good on your wedding day are simple yet effective!

Agudath Israel Of America Goes Into Overdrive To Stop New York Same-Sex Marriage Legalization

I've had plenty on the blog today about Archbishop Timothy Dolan and the NYS Catholic Conference pushing back against what seems to be the state Senate GOP's inching toward legalization of gay marriage, but Christians aren't the only ones getting in on this act.

agudath israel.jpgAgudath Israel Of America, an umbrella group representing many Hasidic Jews, blasted out an "urgent legislative alert" about the New York marriage bill a short time ago, signed by Rabbi Chaim Dovid Zwiebel, executive vice president and Rabbi Shmuel Lefkowitz, vice president for community services:

"It now appears that the New York State Legislature is poised to vote, probably this week, on a bill that would legalize same-gender marriage.? This bill is both morally and legally unacceptable, and could lead to serious negative consequences.? Several Agudath Israel askonim are currently in Albany, conveying these concerns to key legislators, but it is important that Albany hears from our grassroots constituency as well.

"The battleground for this legislation is likely to be in the New York State Senate.? We therefore urge you to take a minute right now and:
?
"1. Call your State Senator and leave the message that you are deeply opposed to legalizing same-gender marriage and will be watching to see how the Senator votes on this important issue.? To be connected to your State Senator, or if you don't know who your State Senator is, call the Senate operator at 518-455-2800.? ?

"2.? Call Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos (518-455-3171), and leave the message that, as leader of the Republican majority in the State Senate, he should make every effort to ensure that the Senate continues to stand firm against same-gender marriage.
?
"Together, with Hashem's help, we can still help defeat this pernicious legislation."
