Pool Safety Tools and Equipment Reviewed | Oval Egg Articles

Checkout the article below on "Pool Safety Tools and Equipment Reviewed" While the majority of the time this matter has not been given it's appropriate share in the media nevertheless currently masses are talking about Swimming Pools Spas and sharing wisdom regarding Swimming Pools Spas. It is highly suggested that you take your time reading through this write-up instead of speed reading it, which might lead to some missed points.

This composition is work of Abraham David. If you want to take this piece of writing please link back to this page. Article on "Pool Safety Tools and Equipment Reviewed" starts after this.

Article Starts from Here:

If you are a swimming pool owner or if you are interested in becoming one, it is important to familiarize yourself with pool safety tools and equipment pieces. Although law may not require these items, they are always recommended.

One of the most important pieces of pool safety equipment that you could ever invest in is that of a pool fence. Laws for pools that contain more than 24 inches of water often require pool fences. Even when law does not require a pool fence, one should be installed. They are considered a must for inground pools. When a pool safety fence is properly used, the risk of drowning related accidents significantly decrease.

Before buying a pool fence, you are urged to review your local and state laws. With that said, all pool fences should be at least four feet high, come with a self-closing gate, and latch. You should have freedom when choosing which style fence you want. Wrought iron, mesh, wood, and chain-linked fences are popular.

In keeping with pool safety fences, it is a wise idea to examine gate alarms. These are alarms that will attach to the gate of your fence. When the alarm is activated and the gate opens, the alarm should sound. If you have children in your home who are not allowed to swim unsupervised, but do know how to open the gate, an alarm should be considered a must have.

Notice: Please beware that anything said in this article on "Pool Safety Tools and Equipment Reviewed" must not be taken as advice from specialist, you should find out specifics from more authentic places as well. Please inquire a specialist of the relevant field. OvalEgg.com is not responsible for any damages of any kind that may arise from applying information contained in this article.

Pool safety covers are another pool safety tool that you may want to use. However, know that there is a difference between traditional pool covers, such as solar covers, and safety covers. Safety covers should not be walked or played on, but they are designed to withstand the weight of an adult.

Pool alarms are a pool safety tool that is still relatively unheard of. With that in mind, the level of protection that they provide should be screamed from the rooftops. All pool owners should have a pool alarm installed. Of course, nothing is as safe as a constant supervision and pool fences, but pool alarms aren?t far behind. When activated, pool alarms will sound when they notice a disturbance in the water. Since many fatalities occur when no one is supposed to be swimming, pool alarms can help to save lives.

Although not as highly regarded as pool safety covers, pool fences, and alarms, pool safety hooks are always a good idea to have on hand. These hooks are also commonly marketed and sold as Shepard?s hooks. In the event of an emergency, they can be used as a lifesaving device. Adults are able to use the hook to grab the swimsuit or clothing of a swimmer in trouble and pull them to the surface and then the side of the pool. Despite the recommendation, know that nothing is better than a strong adult swimmer who can provide aid and assistance.

As you can see, a number of safety tools and equipment pieces can be used to keep your pool fun and safe this summer. In fact, there are other items available for sale as well. You may want to just start shopping and see what you find available. As an important reminder, all of the pool safety tools in the world cannot and should not replace the watchful eye of an adult.

Playing street football two or three times a week could halve the risk of early death in homeless men. Research led by the Universities of Exeter and Copenhagen, out today (3 October), shows the positive impact of street football on the fitness of homeless people, a group with typically poor health and low life expectancy.

Homeless people face a much lower-than-average life expectancy, usually as a result of cardiovascular disease. This is thought to be partly down to low aerobic fitness and high levels of hypertension and the fact that homeless people are, on average, more likely to smoke and misuse alcohol and other drugs. While homeless people tend to undertake large amounts of low-intensity physical exercise, through more than 10,000 daily steps of walking, most do not take part in more intensive exercise.

To address this problem, charities and government agencies have tried schemes such as offering gym memberships to homeless people.

For this study, 55 homeless men living in Copenhagen were included in a control group or invited to attend four-a-side football training sessions two to three times a week for 12 weeks. By the end, the aerobic fitness of the football-playing group was improved and their cholesterol, body fat and blood pressure reduced.

The footballers' average maximal oxygen uptake was increased 11 percent (four ml/min/kg bodyweight). Previous scientific studies have suggested that the risk of death decreases by around 50% through this increase in maximal oxygen uptake. Body fat was reduced by an average of 2.5 per cent and LDL-cholesterol by 6.4 per cent.

Lead author Professor Peter Krustrup of the University of Exeter said: "Street football for homeless men is very intense and 12 weeks of training significantly improves the fitness and cardiovascular health profile of these men. We also observed a very high attendance rate, which is promising for future adherence to physical activity."

"Football seems to be a great type of fitness training for most people. Not only does it encourage varied, intense training, it is social and it can be played anywhere."

Collaborating researcher, Professor Merete Nordentoft of the Psychiatric Center Copenhagen, University of Copenhagen, concludes: "There seems to be great potential for improving the quality of many people's lives if local agencies could organise street football groups for homeless people."

Mass. cat with 2 faces lives 12 years, sets record (AP)

WORCESTER, Mass. ? Frank and Louie the cat was born with two faces, two mouths, two noses, three eyes ? and lots of doubts about his future. Now, 12 years after Marty Stevens rescued him from being euthanized because of his condition, the exotic blue-eyed rag doll cat is not only thriving, but has also made it into the 2012 edition of Guinness World Records as the longest-surviving member of a group known as Janus cats, named for a Roman god with two faces.

"Every day is kind of a blessing; being 12 and normal life expectancy when they have this condition is one to four days," Stevens said, stroking Frank and Louie's soft fur as he sat on her lap purring. "So, he's ahead of the game; every day I just thank God I still have him."

Frank and Louie's breeder had taken him to the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, where Stevens was working at the time, to be euthanized when he was just a day old. Stevens offered to take him home, but experts told her not to get her hopes up.

Janus cats almost never survive, and most have congenital defects, including a cleft palate that makes it difficult for them to nurse and often causes them to slowly starve or get milk in their lungs and die of pneumonia. The condition is the result of a genetic defect that triggers excessive production of a certain kind of protein.

But Frank and Louie did not suffer from most of the common Janus problems. Stevens used feeding tubes to nourish him for three months, hoping that would also save him from the danger of choking on food going down two mouths.

It turned out she didn't have to worry about him choking, because Frank and Louie used just one of his mouths to eat.

"The condition itself is very rare, and I think that the fact that this cat became an adult, a healthy adult, is remarkable," said Dr. Armelle deLaforcade, an associate professor at Cummings and head of the emergency services section.

Colleagues at the veterinary hospital told Stevens that trying to raise Frank and Louie might not be good for him ? or her.

Still, she "stood firm and stood by the cat, and I'm really glad she did because this cat really has fewer problems than many cats that have very normal anatomies," deLaforcade said.

Frank and Louie does not seem to be bothered by his condition and has developed a friendly personality. The breed is known for its soft and silky fur, docile temperament and penchant for relaxing in a person's arms like a rag doll.

He is "very, very laid back, not afraid of people, very friendly and he's actually more of a dog than a cat," Stevens said. "He walks on a leash, he goes right in the car; he loves car rides."

People often want to touch Frank and Louie's long, luxurious fur while Stevens is out walking him.

"It's funny because people walk up to him thinking it's a nice, fluffy white cat and they're walking up with a big smile on their face to pat him, like, `Oh, what a beautiful cat' and I see a look of horror come over their faces when they actually see his face," Stevens said, laughing.

Thirty years ago, a cat like Frank and Louie might not have been given a chance to live.

Said deLaforcade: "You can look at a cat like this as either a very strange and bad omen, or you can look at this cat as a miracle."
